Huntington State Beach. Huntington State Beach is popular spot for surfing, skating and surf fishing. The park also features a bicycle trail and fire rings for bonfires. The beach is the site of a nesting sanctuary for the California least tern, a rare and endangered species, and the threatened snowy plover. Bolsa Chica Beach. The surf at Bolsa Chica Beach is mellow and rolling with awesome surf waves.. Since the bottom shelf here is shallower than at the other beaches, it produces smaller waves and several surf schools teach here. Bolsa Chica is known for its amazing Grunion Runs, when Silvery grunion jump out of the water and lay their eggs on land right after the high tide.
